Student T-Shirt Contest
Our Aim: To engage student members and showcase their creativity.
Your Challenge: Create a T-shirt design that highlights or showcases Earth or space science.
ELIGIBILITY: The AGU Student T-Shirt Contest are open to entrants ages eighteen (18) or older who are current members of the American Geophysical Union. Entrants must complete an entry form which is located on the webpages for each of the contests. Employees and interns of American Geophysical Union and their immediate family members (children, domestic partner, parents, siblings and spouse) and others living in their household are not eligible or are excluded from the contest.

AGREEMENT: All participants must abide by the agreement of the entrant form with full agreement to the official rules and sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to this contest. Winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein. All contest entries become the property of American Geophysical Union (the sponsor) and will not be returned.
SUBMISSION PERIOD: Submission period begins on 15 June 2016 at 00:00 Eastern Time (EDT) and ends on 24 August at 23:59 (EDT). The American Geophysical Union is the official time keeper for the contest period. Entry forms or submissions received prior to or after contest periods are void.
CONTEST RULES: Contestants may not purchase “likes” on Facebook or solicit “likes” outside of the AGU community to promote their entry and compromise the contest. Purchasing or soliciting “likes” may result in an entry being disqualified.
The winner must follow all instructions of the American Geophysical Union and their designated representative. If all related instructions are not adhered to, receipt of the prize may be forfeited, in whole or in part. There are no limits to the number of entries per person.
Associated costs: Winners are responsible for all transportation, gratuities, meals, trips, incidentals, applicable taxes, and any other associated expenses not specified above.
T-Shirt design: All entries must be in good taste. No rude or vulgar language, no insults directed at other disciplines, and no plagiarism. Creative use of the language of your discipline, humor, puns, etc. is definitely encouraged!
HOW TO ENTER: During the contest period, fill out an entry form online and submit it to the American Geophysical Union.
T-Shirt: Submissions must relate to the geophysical sciences. Digital entries only. High-resolution images in .eps format are preferred. The design must be your own original, unpublished work and must not include any third-party logos or copyrighted material. By entering the competition, you agree that your submission is your own work. Use the following file name convention when uploading your design: tshirtdesign_YOURLASTNAME_YOURFIRSTNAME.(file extension) e.g. tshirtdesign_Everdeen_Katniss.eps
SELECTION OF WINNER:
T-Shirt: After closing date for submissions, AGU Science Department staff will review and select up to five finalists for the T-shirt competition. T-shirt designs will be uploaded to an album on AGU’s Facebook page. AGU’s Facebook audience will be instructed to vote for their top choice by “liking” the entry. The design with the most “Likes” at 23:59 EDT on 18 September will be chosen as the winner.
WINNER: The American Geophysical Union will announce the winner of the Student T-Shirt Contest. The T-shirt contest winner will be contacted via phone and/or email on or before 21 September. If the winner does not respond within thirty (30) days of the first contact attempt, he or she will be disqualified, and an alternative entrant will be selected for the grand prize. All decisions by the judges are FINAL in all matters relating to this contest.
PRIZE: To be eligible to win 2016 Fall Meeting registration, all T-shirt and video entries must be received by 24 August 2016 at 23:59 (EDT). There will only be one (1) recipient of the prize for the T-Shirt Design Contest. The prize consists of:
Full student member registration for the 2016 AGU Fall meeting in San Francisco, CA valued at $285.00.
The Grand Prize, as described, may not be exchanged for cash. It is transferable (to another student) but nonrefundable and not valid for any other meeting but the 2016 AGU Fall Meeting.
PRIVACY: Contact information will not be passed on to any other companies without your expressed permission.
GENERAL CONDITIONS: All contest entries become the property of the American Geophysical Union. All contest entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they do not follow the criterion provided; or if they are forged, falsified, altered or interfered within any way. By entering the contest, all entrants consent to the use of their image or video in any future form(s) of publicity of the American Geophysical Union, without further notice or compensation. By participating in this contest, entrants acknowledge compliance with, and agree to be bounded by, all Contest Terms, Conditions, Rules and Regulations, including eligibility requirements.
All Entrants release and hold harmless the American Geophysical Union (AGU), from and against any and all manner of action, causes of action, suits, debts, covenants, contracts, claims and demands, including legal fees and expenses, whatsoever, including but not limited to, claims based on negligence, breach of contract and fundamental breach and liability for physical injury, death, or property damage which the entrants or his/her administrators, heirs, successors or assigns might have or could have, by reason of or arising out of the entrant’s participation in the contest and/or in connection with the acceptance and/or exercise by the entrant of the Grand Prize awarded.
